Search Replace TransferAppendThe Append tab adds extra text to the chosen field, either before or after the text. For example, imagine I have 221 images with a variety of captions - some are caption ed “Greek temples at Paestum, Campania”, others “Buffalo farm at Paestum” and so on. How would you add the text “, Italy” to all these images? Many people would select the first group of pictures and edit their caption text to add “, Italy”. You’d then do the same to the second group, and so on. That’s tedious enough with a few pictures. Some would know the trick on the right. You select them all, and after the "< mixed>" you could type the extra characters, then enter. That's what Search Replace Transfer’s Append tab does, but it can also add sequential numbers with leading zeroes: WHICH IMAGES ARE AFFECTED?The plug-in will target images which are selected. If no images are selected, the menu commands will be greyed out. I think it makes sense to force the user to deliberately choose which pictures should be affected. REVIEW YOUR BACKUPThis plug-in makes it easy for you to change many images' metadata in a few seconds. Inevitably, that brings some risks. As with all Lightroom work, do not rely on XMP sidecars, if you save them. Make sure you frequently back up your catalogue - daily, at least. |
