Search Replace Transfer
F.A.Q.
Q Have you updated Search and Replace for Lightroom's current version?
- It works on in Lightroom 4 and any later version, including Classic 12.3
Q I can't see any of the custom fields
- Most probably you haven't enabled them in the Plugin Manager
Q What if I make a mistake?
- So long as you don't close Lightroom, you can use Undo
- However, remember the importance of backing up your catalogue. If you are unable to undo a serious mistake but still have a backup, I may be able to help you.
Q What happened to iView Media Pro support?
- I have withdrawn this feature as I don't think anyone was using it, and it's so long since I used MediaPro that I can't really support it except in very general terms.
- If I had to migrate metadata from iView it myself now in 2023 I would try to export text from MediaPro's list view layout into a txt or csv text file (sadly I can't remember the names of the relevant MediaPro menu commands). Another way is to use MediaPro's list view and then copy the rows to the clipboard and paste into a text file. I'd then use the LrTransporter plugin to import the text file's contents into LR. I hope that helps.
WHICH IMAGES ARE AFFECTED?
The plug-in will target images which are selected. If no images are selected, the menu commands will be greyed out. I think it makes sense to force the user to deliberately choose which pictures should be affected.
REVIEW YOUR BACKUP
This plug-in makes it easy for you to change many images' metadata in a few seconds. Inevitably, that brings some risks.
As with all Lightroom work, do not rely on XMP sidecars, if you save them. Make sure you frequently back up your catalogue - daily, at least.
